What is the Trusted Traveller/NEXUS trial?

This is an initiative of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), in conjunction with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Transport Canada (TC). CATSA is testing the use of a separate screening line for passengers who possess a NEXUS card at selected airport security checkpoints in Canada.

Who can participate?

This trial project applies only to members of NEXUS, a joint Canada/U.S.A. program that expedites the border clearance process for pre-approved, low-risk travellers. Any Canadian can apply for a NEXUS card.

Where is this trial program being offered?

The Trusted Traveller/NEXUS screening line is now available for domestic and select international flights (excluding travel to the United States) at three Canadian airports: Macdonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa, Pearson International Airport in Toronto, and Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

How does the designated screening line work?

NEXUS members must show their NEXUS card and boarding pass to enter the specially marked screening line at the airport security checkpoint. All other passengers go through a regular screening line. Access to the designated line is not based on class or cost of an airline ticket, or frequent flyer status.

Do NEXUS members undergo any security screening in the designated line?

Yes. Travellers using the Trusted Traveller/NEXUS line and their carry-on baggage still undergo pre-board screening.  

How can I get a NEXUS card?

To apply for NEXUS membership, you must have lived continuously in Canada and/or the United States for the past three years. You can register online through the NEXUS Web site, obtain an application form from the Web site or a NEXUS enrollment centre at many Canadian airports. Once you have filled out the form and paid the non-refundable $50 processing fee, the CBSA and CBP will verify that you meet the program requirements. If both countries approve your membership, the card will be issued within six to eight weeks.

AC expands transborder service to the US

Air Canada has launched the only daily non-stop flights to San Diego and Portland.

With the introduction of today's non-stop flights, Air Canada has now launched new daily services between Toronto and seven American cities this spring including Orange County (Santa Ana) and San Diego, California; Portland, Oregon; Memphis, Tennessee; Cincinnati, Ohio; Portland, Maine; and Syracuse, New York.

Flights operate non-stop and are conveniently timed for connections with flights on Air Canada's domestic and international network. Customers can also earn and redeem Aeroplan miles on each route.

Air Canada's newest U.S. transborder flight details are:

To San Diego:
Flights depart Toronto at 17h25, arriving in San Diego at 19h25. The return service departs San Diego at 07h25, arriving in Toronto at 15h07

To Portland:
Flights depart Toronto at 17h30, arriving in Portland at 19h38. The return service departs Portland at 08h00, arriving in Toronto at 15h16
